The novel

Broken Paths is a deeply sensitive novel which charts the dysfunctional relationship between a Bengali single mother and the son she has raised in England.

When Samir becomes tired of his mother’s strict ways and moves out, Amina is left bereft and desperate. A Bengali neighbour misguides Amina into believing that an arranged marriage is the solution to get her son back, encouraging her to set out on a path that leads to the fateful confrontation between mother and son, and a tragic consequence that tests the strength of filial love.

With scenes set in both Britain and Bangladesh, Broken Paths is a tender story that explores these two lives, moving back and forth in time, peeling away the layers of history to reveal the painful secret that each person keeps from the other and the impact this has on their relationship – a relationship challenged further by the cultural divide.
